A Message from Philip Hemmings

I wrote 3 Seconds on Earth to help you discover how struggles can shape and build you instead of break you. 3 Seconds on Earth isn’t just about answering life’s biggest questions—it’s about inviting you into a new way of living. This book shows that struggles aren’t wasted, regrets don’t have to define you, and even the fear of death can be replaced with peace and confidence. Through real stories, scientific insight, and faith-based truth, you’ll discover how life’s hardest moments can serve you, building character, resilience, and deeper trust in God.

At its heart, this book is about freedom—the kind of freedom that comes when you anchor your hope in eternity. As you walk through its pages, you’ll see your struggles in a new light and uncover the truth that you are deeply loved, never forgotten, and created with eternal purpose.

About the Book

Life is short, but eternity is forever. In 3 Seconds on Earth, author Philip Hemmings invites readers to see life through a fresh lens that transforms fear, regret, and uncertainty into peace, purpose, and strength.

At the heart of the book is the idea of paradigm shifts—new ways of seeing that reveal how our struggles are not setbacks but training grounds. Just as gym equipment works different muscles, life’s problems strengthen patience, endurance, resilience, and faith. What feels like resistance is actually preparation. Each hardship becomes an opportunity for God to shape character and equip us for a greater purpose.

Drawing from biblical truth, real-life transformation stories, and powerful accounts of near-death experiences, 3 Seconds on Earth tackles some of life’s biggest questions:

  • How can I face death with peace instead of fear?

  • What is the real purpose God designed for my life?

  • Why would a loving God allow suffering and hardship?

  • How can my struggles serve me by strengthening my faith, character, and resilience instead of tearing me down?

  • What can Heaven, Hell, and eternity teach us about life now?

For those struggling with fear of death and longing for peace

If the thought of death has ever filled you with fear, you’re not alone. This book will help you see that death is not the end but the beginning of something greater—where fear is replaced with peace and even excited anticipation of finally being free from pain, anxiety, and worry. It points to a joy more alive than anything we could ever experience in these dulled earthly bodies. Our time on earth is only a brief opening chapter to the real book of your life.

  • A black and white photo of a woman with wide eyes, holding her face with both hands, her hair messy, and a surprised or distressed expression.

For those searching for meaning and God’s purpose in life

It’s natural to wonder if your life has meaning. God created you with intention, and there is nothing random about your journey. Every decision, every season, and every struggle fits into His plan. What you face is not there to break you but to strengthen you—like a storm that forces a tree’s roots to grow deeper. Each struggle deepens your faith, forms your character, and prepares you for the destiny God has designed for you.

  • A person with short dark hair covering their face with both hands, wearing a black t-shirt. They have tattoos on their arms, and are standing in front of a building.”}

For those feeling overwhelmed and looking to transform pain into purpose

A powerful paradigm shift shows us that difficulties don’t exist to defeat you—they exist to develop you. Like gym equipment works different muscles, struggles work different parts of your character, building strength where you need it most.

  • Person with clasped hands on an open Bible resting on a wooden table.

For those wondering why God allow suffering and hardship

It’s natural to wonder why a loving God allows suffering. The answer ties back to free will—because love that’s forced isn’t love at all. With freedom came the risk of pain, but our time here is short, only three seconds against the backdrop of eternity. In those moments of hardship, God often shows up most clearly, offering strength, peace, and a deeper faith that endures forever.

When the Waters Rise: What the Texas Floods Remind Us - June 6, 2025

The devastating floods in Texas claimed dozens of lives, including children—an unspeakable loss that stops us in our tracks. Tragedy like this shakes our sense of control and forces us to confront what really matters.

The truth is, we spend so much of life preparing for things that don’t last—careers, comfort, reputation—and very little time preparing for what never ends.

Moments like these remind us that life is short, but eternity isn’t. And in that space between the temporary and the eternal, God is always calling us to something deeper.

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12 (NLT)

What Bill Gates Just Reminded Us About Life’s True Priorities - July 13, 2025

This past week, Bill Gates gave away an astonishing 51 billion dollars, part of his pledge to not die rich but to give his fortune away during his lifetime. I do not know if Bill is a Christian or not, but his actions serve as a powerful reminder of something I write about in 3 Seconds on Earth—that our time here is short, and what we do with it matters far more than what we accumulate.

We were not created to be slaves to money. We are here for something much deeper: the development of our character, the love we show others, and the purpose we live out. Gates' decision to give so much away highlights what happens when we stop clinging to material things and start asking what legacy we will leave.

It is easy to get caught in the grind of chasing more, earning more, and spending more. But in the end, it is not the size of our bank account that counts. It is the size of our heart, the impact of our choices, and the way we have grown through both pain and purpose.

3 Seconds on Earth challenges readers to see life through this lens. Eternity is real, and how we live in these brief moments on Earth is shaping us forever.
